Many people have different definitions for media. This was proven with the interview given to three completely different members of my family. When I interviewed my brother who is 21, he gave me the definition that " Media is anything you can find out information from, either electronic or written." He said that media does influence his life by providing him with new information. What he didn't realize was how many different forms media comes in, even the music he listens to is media, but he did not realize that.
The second person that I interviewed was my mom. She believed that media was "a form of communication." She left it very broad and was not very detailed. But when I asked her why she didn't put in more details she said media is broad, and there are too many forms of media to put into one or two sentences. I think my mom had the best hold on what media truely is compared to what we talked about in class with the large list of what media is.
The last person that I interviewed was my grandma. Throughout her life there has been many different changes in media. Her definition was "Information given to a large audience." She said that it helped her make different decisions and inform her of what was going on in the world. However, when I asked her if she thought music, and clothes were media, she didn't think it was.
This interview clearly shows that different ages have different definitions for what media is and what is included under the umbrella of the definition. There were two things that were clearly agreed on throughout all three interviews. The first and main point was that media is a form of communication. The second point that was touched on was about the question that I created. The question I asked was "What form of media do you believe contains the most bias". Everyone agreed that the news was the form of meida that was the most biased.
I don't think that I can clearly give a definition for what media is. All I know is that the world would be a completely different place, and probably nonexistent if media did not exist. This assignment opened my eyes to see how large of an impact media has in my life.
